“Not your average ‘Cookie Cutter’ Wedding”

After 6 years of living overseas, there was no other place than home where we wanted to get married. We chose an empty canvas to host the big day, a private retreat on Waiheke Island which we hired for 3 days. We had a huge space to fill, a lot of logistics to arrange and every single thing you could imagine needed to be bought to the property, including toilets and water! But I was reveling in the challenge as I was an organized queen in my day job. We live and work on yachts overseas and I had given myself a whirlwind 3 week holiday back home, just 6 months out from the wedding to get everything organized before returning back to work. We were clear about a few things, every single part of our wedding had to personal, not ‘cookie cutter’, a real reflection of us as a couple and our years travelling abroad. Details make a wedding and it’s easy to replicate or duplicate weddings that have been and gone. We knew the most memorable weddings we’d been too as guests, had been thoughtful and personal, so right from the start, everything and everyone involved was a choice. I had met Lisa on that 3 week holiday back home and despite having no intentions of requiring a wedding planner; I immediately jumped at the chance to throw a few cheeky free questions her way. It was like meeting a chef at the supermarket, just hours before making an 8 course degustation menu for 50 of your friends. I realized quickly she was someone who knew her stuff and more importantly understood what we were trying to achieve. Returning back overseas, I had ticked some boxes, but still had so many ideas and inspirations and no results. A lot of goggling left us dissatisfied with what was on offer on the surface of the NZ wedding market. I was left uninspired and left wanting. One Skype call to Lisa and I felt immediately inspired again. Lisa offered a sense of relief, she had this aura of ‘don’t worry, I’ve done this before, I know what you mean, that’s not a silly question’ and really gave us real confidence to be the right person to work alongside us during this process.

At times I felt like the most difficult bride to be around, because the usual ‘easy’ decisions were made hard because they needed to be that extra bit special and meaningful.  We poured over decisions about everything including people we worked with, tables we sat at, napkins we wiped our faces with and wine we drank. I never thought I could work with anyone who was on my wave length, but Lisa never blinked an eye and no request or inspiration was scoffed at. Without knowing me for very long, she immediately adapted to my organizational behavior, emailing me dream spreadsheets and incredible design boards.  Only a bride knows the amount of thinking that goes on to conjure up the vision you have of your special day. You try to explain it to your friends and family and often bore your fiancée with it, and he smiles politely. Being an organized person I suspected that no-one would be able to offer me much that I couldn’t do myself, but self flattery gets you nowhere! During the wedding planning, there were things that Lisa thought of, or alternative ideas that she offered that I would never have thought of myself. I’ll never forget when she uttered those words “I’m all yours, call, text or email me anytime, get those thoughts out of your brain and into mine”, it was like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Lisa’s a bride’s best friend.

To top it all off, having Lisa there on the day completed the dream picture. She not only provided a stress free day for me and my husband, but gave my family and bridal party a real opportunity to relax. There were things that went wrong, that I only found out about afterwards.  More importantly it gave my overactive brain a real chance to stop, soak up special moments with my new husband and spend precious time with all our friends and family that had travelled to be with us. I guess my message is, to anyone out there thinking you don’t need Beautiful Events to help plan your wedding, no matter how organized you think you are, your head will get cloudy, there will be things you will forget and there will be details you will miss. Everyone can have a lovely wedding, but if you use Beautiful Events they will help you create the most memorable, meaningful wedding you ever dreamed possible.

Having Lisa as our wedding planner was not negotiable.

Having known Lisa from working with her in the past, I knew that she would work with the ideas that Alister and I had and translate them into some thing beautiful.  She was our back bone to our wedding and dove in there like a pitbull!  Any problems we had were not problems for long.  She gave open opinions when my creative mind went a little crazy on all of the “stuff” I felt I wanted.  She has a really fantastic way of keeping you on route by referencing back to your first meeting with her, as the newly, oh so excited engage couple, making sure you don’t get all caught up in the “wedding” drama and keeping you grounded by reminding you what you said was important to you.

I would recommend her to any couples out there that want someone who is going to make things happen! Thanks so much Lise!

Lisa is so much more than a wedding planner. She is also a stylist, counsellor and friend!! Andy and I knew very early on that planning two weddings in 2 days as well as the week of festivities beforehand was going to be a hugely stressful task… along came Lisa… and within the first week of meeting her my stress levels had significantly decreased! I had quite firm ideas about the theme of our wedding – I wanted an East meets West concept with lots of red roses – and Lisa helped me create the visual effect I was looking for, even though it wasn’t your typical ‘white wedding’! With all her wonderful contacts, we managed to put the concept together quite quickly. Lisa’s contacts are all people she has worked with numerous times before and trusts, and they didn’t let me down! One of the things I loved most about Lisa was her total honesty… if one of my slightly more unusual requests wasn’t going to work she would tell me straight up… something you really appreciate when you are a stressed out bride to be!! She is also so calm and collected when dealing with those last minute dramas that happen to everyone a real illustration of her versatility was when we changed from long to round tables 2 weeks before the wedding. She worked in consultation with our florist and came up with a stunning table setting within 48 hours!!

It quickly became apparent to me how much Lisa loves weddings! She took a real personal interest, was constantly in touch with me and also worked well with my family to make sure they were happy! Nothing I asked of her was too big a task, and the number of time-consuming jobs she did immediately before and during the wedding took a huge amount of pressure off Andy and I and our families. Like Lisa, I am a perfectionist and it made the world of difference as we were socialising with our guests after the ceremony and getting our photos taken that everything would be looking perfect and running smoothly at our reception venue because of Lisa. When Andy and I and our bridal party walked into our reception venue for the first time we were blown away by how gorgeous Lisa had made the place look.. it was one of many unforgettable moments! My mum and dad still rave about how easy Lisa made their lives during the wedding… she packed up all the pressies and took care of the cake after the reception.. meaning that Mum and Dad were free to party with us! What an hard working lady!

Lisa, Andy and I have so much to thank you for… you helped create our dream wedding and the best day of our lives!! We are looking forward to supporting you through all your future ‘projects’.

Wow what a day… The best day of our lives!!!
Thank you so much for all your hard work in planning and delivering the most picture perfect wedding we could have ever asked for! We really can’t thank you enough for everything you did for us and there is no way we could have done it without you! A friend asked me the other day if I could do anything differently looking back, what would it be? My answer was “nothing”, which just proves how you totally got to know us and took an interest in what we actually wanted.

The whole day was flawless with every little detail being taken care of seamlessly; we really could not fault a thing! With guests arriving from all over the place that had some bizarre requirements which I was certain would create a challenge; you managed to overcome anything and everything thrown at you without an issue taking care of everything for us and making it a totally stress free day!

Your attention to detail in designing the whole event was just amazing. The room and table set up was so very pretty and as for the cupcake cake with the custom made stand and the pin free magnetic button hole flower for Alex… well what can I say, there truly are no words!!! The very best thing though would have to be how you took note in a meeting with us 12 months before the wedding of a couple of really silly little things which would have just made the day perfect for us, which we had totally forgotten about until you delivered them on the day – the look on Alex’s face was priceless. You really went above and beyond our expectations to make our dreams come true!

Lisa, you are the best!!! We are so pleased that we’ve stayed in touch and are looking forward to being friends forever.

We were recently married and employed the services of wedding planner, Lisa Robertson.

Weddings can be an extremely stressful time for a couple and their families however Lisa’s made sure the whole experience was completely stress-free for Mike and I.

Lisa’s took a personal interest in both Mike and I and made sure our day was perfect. She was extremely accommodating and went above and beyond our expectations of our wedding planner. From flowers to our first dance, Lisa made sure our dreams became a reality.

Lisa’s knowledge and experience meant she could offer suggestions and guidance for the decisions we had to make. Lisa also ensured all of our guests were taken care of and many of the guests commented on how well the day went.

Trying to organize a wedding with numerous overseas guests while pregnant and then with a newborn in attendance was a daunting task. With the efficiently organized Lisa Robertson on hand and tending to detail in the final hour I really had nothing to worry about.

Having resigned myself to the fact that something would go wrong and determined not to be the bride from hell when it did, the big day actually resulted in a relaxed, smooth, joyous occasion without a single hiccup! This I believe was due to the fact that Lisa ensured everything promised eventuated, behind the scenes was dealt with without the need for my husband or I to be distracted from our party and had anything gone wrong we knew nothing of it!

We were both very busy with our jobs, prior to the wedding and heading overseas for our honeymoon. We had little time for heading backwards and forwards trying to organise wedding options, the venue, flowers, seating etc. We did resort to a few emails and when we did meet up, Lisa was fantastic, well organised and most of all she had listened to what we wanted most from the wedding.

As we sat down and discussed locations, menus, wine lists, it seemed her resourcefulness and contacts were endless. Sometimes, It’s the small things that can count, and Lisa had them all covered.

The whole wedding reception was well tailored, with Lisa in the background the whole day subtly arranging the days flow so that we never missed a beat.

It’s been near 2 years following our wedding, and we remain in contact with Lisa to this day. You would be hard pushed to find someone as dedicated and organised as her.
